Configurations for Tunnelblick connecting to OpenVPN.

Connecting

In the upper right corner click on the Tunnelblick icon. From the drop down click on Connect mbennett

A passphrase prompt will appear. Enter your password in the field and click ok.

In the upper right corner you should see the connection attempting to authorize. If it is stuck on connecting the IP may have changed see Table of Contents for more information.

If the connection and authentication worked properly, the configurations for the VPN will be applied.

If the process completes you will see a Connected notification

Changing the VPN connection
Get IP

If the VPN is not connecting the IP address may have changed. http://www.hilands.com/iplookup/crossroads.txt will contain the current IP address for the VPN server. Validate the time stamp displayed, this page is automatically updated every 15 minutes.

Open TextEdit, it should be available on the dock. If not you will need to locate it in applications. From the finder menu choose Go from the menu and Applications or Shift-Command-A.

From the TextEdit menu choose file > Open Recent > mbennett.ovpn. If it is not available in the recent files it is available on the harddrive /opt/vpn/mbennett.ovpn.

The fourth line contains a string with the IP address. It starts with remote folowed by a space, the IP address of the VPN server (obtained above via the iplookup) another space and the port 1194.

Remove old OVPN Config

From the Tunnelblick icon in the upper right corner choose VPN Details... from the context menu.

Select the currently loaded file mbennett under the configurations in the left hand list. and click the minus - icon at the bottom of the list.

You will need to enter the admin credentials in the authentication window.

A window will appear with a notification that no vpn configurations are loaded. Click I have configuration files. This will give you a message box with information on how to load files.

Click on the how to load a configuration message box.

Load new OPVN Config

From the Macintosh HD Open the opt folder.

Next open the VPN folder

Double click on the ovpn file mbennett.ovpn
